Barinthus is one of the Queen's Ravens and a former god, Manannan Mac Lir, a sea and weather god from Irish mythology.  He is one of the most powerful beings within the Unseelie court.

Barinthus is feared in the courts, and whispers of his last duel still circulate, when a sidhe drowned in a summer meadow miles from any water.

When Merry returned to Los Angeles, Barinthus stays behind at court to help build alliances for her.

Merry believes that Barinthus and Essus were romantic partners and that his oath to Andais prevented his marriage to Essus as it would have put Barinthus in line for the crown.

Personality[]

He is self-conscious of the webbing between his fingers since a reporter in the 1950's referred to him as "the fish man."

He never fought a duel unless it was to the death, anything else was a waste of his time.

Description[]

He is described as almost seven feet tall, 'as befit a god,' and possessing a nictating membrane over his eyes.

Powers[]

Barinthus has the power to manipulate the water around him. He could drag a man beneath the ocean and hold him there to drown for eternity.

He could make people drown on dry land miles from any water.

He is able to communicate through a bowl of water with others and due to his power over water it is almost undetectable.

He is one of the sidhe who had managed to hold onto most of the power that they once held.

History[]

He is over 6,000 years old and is one of the oldest of the sidhe. He was once the sea god Manannan Mac Lir. He once ruled over the waters surrounding the isles of the sidhe.

When he asked to join the Unseelie Court Andais extracted an oath from him that he would never take the throne before she allowed him entry. Despite being unable to ascend to a throne himself, he is known as the Kingmaker and his support often sways many of the fey. He supported Prince Essus for the throne.

In the 1950s a reporter wrote an article about Barinthus and called him "the fish man". The reporter eventually drowned in a freak boating accident.

When she was a child, he taught Merry to swim, and she thought it wonderful that he could blink twice with each eye. He began supporting Meredith after Essus's death.
